Jill Goddard and Jonathan Bates
Two of the band’s young soloists enjoyed success at the recent Innovate Skelmanthorpe Band’s Slow Melody.

Entering the section for players aged 11 years and under, Tenor Horn player Jonathan Bates gave what adjudicator Kevin Wadsworth described as ‘A Note-Perfect Performance’ of the solo ‘The Holy City’ to win the section by four clear points.

In the next section for players aged 14 years and under, Eb Bass player Jill Goddard played ‘Sanctuary of the Heart’. The adjudicator’s remarks summed up her performance as ‘So Musical’, and she won her section by two clear points

Thurlstone Band M.D., Graham Bates was delighted for the band’s ‘double-winners’, and said “They both produced performances which showed outstanding quality
of sound and musicality and were deserved winners. I’m really proud of them for the effort they have put in, and thanks must also go to their teachers and parents for the support they have shown”.
