Our annual dinner this year was held at the White Heart in Penistone. Everyone enjoyed the meal and there was a great rapport during the evening.
Graham Bates, MD, thanked everyone for coming and said that after four years as conductor, the Band was at its strongest position since he started. He was pleased the following had attended, new regular players, Joanne Fisher on principal cornet, Murray Preston on soprano cornet, Dave Flather on euphonium. Graham thanked Tim Clarke for moving onto repiano cornet to strength the back row with Kirsty Searby and Debbie Bettles. Other new players who deservedly got a mention were Lewis Bettles on solo trombone and his brother Kyle on EEb bass. Unfortunately the Bettles’ family were unable to be at the dinner.
Joanne did her best to avoid having her photo taken
Jonathan Bates did his best to avoid getting a kiss from Rita
Robert Abel and James Broadhead seem to be enjoying themselves
Thanks were given to organiser, Sandra Eastwood, right, with Karen Searby. Surprise! Sandra also tries to avoid having her photo taken
Jonathan didn’t seem to like his sticky toffee pudding!
Graham during his speech to the nation!
As is traditional at the annual dinner, Graham selects the most improved player for the previous year. This year’s well-deserved recipient was Eleanor Jeffcock on flugel horn. Well done, Eleanor
The last award went to the euphonium section as they have the best reflector panels in the band, so a method to deflect was found!
