At the end of the Carol Service at St Leonard's Church, Wortley on Sunday 23 December 2001, the congregation again enjoyed a number of Yorkshire
dialect stories written and performed by John Pix. John wrote the ditty below about the Band especially for the occasion, and it is included on a
cassette tape he has recently produced. John kindly gave us permission to publish it on the web site:

If yer want a seat at t'Carol Service,
You'll 'ave to be in good time, believe me,
You'll 'ave to buj up and make a bit o' room,
'Else you'll 'ave someone sat on your knee.

It's gerrin reight popular - t'Carol Service -
Wi' t'church full, it dunt 'alf sound grand.
They all sing their 'eads off, and try to lift t'roof,
Wi' t'elp of our favourite Brass Band.

On solo cornet, there's Kirsty Hayley and Paul,
And playing soprano cornet, there's another Paul anall.
There's Simon on second cornet, and Sarah on third,
And Sharon Horne on flugel horn is the best you've ever heard.
On solo horn and euphonium are Linda and Peter, her dad.
Alexis plays the first horn, and she's not so bad.
Second horn is played by Nigel and Sandra's on baritone,
David plays the euphonium, Roy and Kathleen play trombone.
Mike and John and Richard are the lads who all play bass.
Tricia and Susan on percussion keep up a heck of a pace.

Up front is young Barry Crozier.
It's a magician's wand he 'as in 'is 'and.
He's taken a bunch of extraordinary folk,
And created the magic that is Thurlstone Brass Band.
